Responding to Anti-Semitism in our Community April 30th

Six North Shore Synagogues Mobilize
to Combat Anti-Semitism Locally
Area Synagogues Co-Sponsor Town Hall Discussion with Prominent Community Leaders

Plandome, NY:

Six North Shore synagogues from Plandome, Port Washington and Manhasset are holding a joint event on April 30, 2017 to address community concerns about rising anti-Semitism in the area. The town hall-style event, “Responding to Anti-Semitism in Our Community: a morning of learning, mobilizing and action,” will feature a panel of community leaders who will offer an expert analysis of the current situation, discuss solutions to combat anti-Semitism on a local level, and answer questions from community members.
Panelists include:
Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY);
Etzion Neuer, Director of Community Services, Anti-Defamation League NY;
Thomas Krumpter, Acting Commissioner, Nassau County Police Department; and
Karen Sloan, President of the Board of Education, Port Washington Union Free School District.
Rabbi Jodie Siff of the North Shore Reconstructionist Synagogue (RSNS) will moderate.
“From a barrage of bomb threats made against Jewish community centers to a swastika scrawled on a bathroom wall at Schreiber High School, from a social media post depicting a local Jewish politician as a character from “Fiddler on the Roof” to a Disney-sponsored You Tuber streaming “Death to all Jews” to our children’s phones, rising anti-Semitism is no longer just a worldwide problem, it’s a local one,” said Rabbi Siff. “It’s urgent that people of all faiths and backgrounds come together and work toward making our communities safe for everyone.”
During the discussion, children in K-6th grades are invited to participate in a program that will focus on acceptance and diversity.
The event is hosted by RSNS (1001 Plandome Road, Plandome, NY) and co-sponsored by Chevrat Tefillah, Community Synagogue, Port Jewish Center, RSNS, Temple Beth Israel, and Temple Judea of Manhasset.
Free event. Doors open at 10:00 am. Programming begins at 10:30 am and concludes at 12:30 pm. Bagels and coffee will be served. The entire community is welcome.
