Shavuot 5776, June 12th 10:30 am – 1pm
Services! Study! Sour Cream!?
On Sunday June 12th, we will be holding our annual Shavuot with Yizkor Services, Study and Sour Cream (and Blintzes) program. Services will begin at 10:30 am in the sanctuary and will include the morning prayers, a Torah reading and the memorial Yizkor prayers. Following the service, we will sit in the oneg room and properly celebrate Shavuot with food and discussion.
The lunch discussion, to be led by Rabbi Chizner, will focus on:
The top ten most important commandments to the rabbis.
The food that will be served will include blintzes and cheese and other dairy delicacies.
Why dairy? The holiday of Shavuot celebrates God giving us the Torah and according to traditional understandings, Torah is likened to milk. Just as milk has the ability to fully sustain the body of a baby, so too does the Torah provides all the “spiritual nourishment” necessary for our growing human souls.
I look forward to praying, remembering and noshing with you.
